The Power of Perception in Product Development

How to Leverage "Fake It Until You Make It" in Marketing

When designing a product or service, everything may not be fully complete yet. However, by using the "Fake it until you make it" strategy, you can act as if your product is already on the market, allowing you to collect valuable feedback from customers and effectively manage perceptions.

As Mevlana wisely said, "No matter how much you know, what you say is understood according to the listener's perception."

Presenting an unfinished product in the right way helps build trust among your target audience and allows you to shape the product according to their expectations.

For example, during our R&D efforts for a computer stand that hangs above the bed, I started collecting feedback as if the product was already launched, even before it was completed. Once I created a real customer perception, the number of feedback responses rapidly increased, enabling the product to develop itself further. Steve Jobs perfectly summarized this situation with his words: "Your customers don’t know what they want until you show it to them." By gathering feedback while the product was still in development, we were able to better understand the needs and demands of our customers.

This process demonstrated to me how crucial perception is in marketing.

This process demonstrated to me how crucial perception is in marketing. Even if your product is not fully ready, acting as if it is can help build trust and increase interest. As Richard Branson said, "Make it look big, because the perception of success opens the door to real success." The path to success in marketing lies in effectively managing perception; even if you are not there yet, appearing as if you are can accelerate your journey to ultimate success.

I will continue to share my thoughts on this strategy and marketing.

Additionally, I plan to launch my own website next week. I aim to transfer all my blogs to this new platform, providing more comprehensive content for my readers. This way, I will be able to offer deeper insights not only on marketing but also on business, entrepreneurship, and strategy. I am excited to prepare my new site, and very soon, you will be able to find all my writings there!
